Getting Started

1. How do I become a tutor?

To apply, fill out our interest form:

One of our staff members will reach out within 24–48 hours for a quick verification interview. Only verified tutors gain access to the dashboard and appear in our public marketplace.

2. How long does it take for my profile to appear publicly?

Your profile goes live instantly after verification, as long as:

  • Your bio is 300+ characters
  • You have selected at least 1 subject
  • You have uploaded a valid profile image URL

3. How do I edit my tutor profile?

After logging in at https://studytoday.us, go to Edit Profile.

You can update:

  • Subjects you teach
  • Hourly rate (in coins, 100 coins = $1)
  • Languages
  • Profile bio
  • Profile image URL
  • Education background
  • MBTI type
  • New student discount

Important: Profile Image URLs

Your profile picture must be an image URL, not a file upload.

You can host your photo on:

  • Imgur → upload → right-click → "Copy Image Address"
  • GitHub → create a repo → upload image to assets or any folder → click on the image → click "Raw" button → copy that URL (must be the raw.githubusercontent.com link, not the regular github.com file link)
  • PostImage → upload → use the "Direct link" URL

Your URL should end with .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .webp

Managing Sessions

4. How do I log a tutoring session?

  1. Log in at https://studytoday.us
  2. Go to Log Session
  3. Fill in:
    • Date & time
    • Duration (in minutes)
    • Student email or user ID
    • Optional comments
    • Files (Discord message link)

About the "Files" field:

This field requires a Discord message link containing your uploaded class materials.

Steps:

  1. Join the Study Today Discord server
  2. Upload class materials (notes, worksheets, etc.) to the appropriate channel
  3. Right-click the message → Copy Message Link
  4. Paste that link into the Files field when logging your session

This makes all files accessible through our automated system and appears on student dashboards for easy download.

5. What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

Contact your student directly to find a new time. Then update the session time when logging. We trust you to manage your schedule professionally.

6. What if I gave a discount or free session?

Payments & Platform Rules

7. When do tutors get paid?

Tutors get paid once we confirm a logged session (normally within 24-48 hours). Payment method may vary (Zelle/Venmo/PayPal/etc.) depending on tutor preference and region.

8. Am I allowed to accept payment directly from students?

NO. All payments must go through Study Today.

This keeps accounting consistent and protects both you and the student. Private payments are a material breach of our agreement.

If a parent insists on paying privately, politely decline and notify us within 24 hours.

9. What should I do if a student tries to bypass the platform?

If a parent or student asks to pay privately, you can respond:

"All payments go through Study Today. The platform fee is already very low, and it handles scheduling, payment records, and access to class materials for both of us. It keeps everything organized and protects both student and tutor accounts, so I'm not able to accept private payments outside the system."

10. What happens if a student asks for a refund?

Please message us immediately:

Tutors cannot modify lesson records, give refunds, or offer free lessons without approval. We'll handle it on the admin side.

Communication & Teaching

11. Can I communicate with students outside the platform?

Yes — absolutely.

You may communicate through:

  • WeChat
  • WhatsApp
  • Instagram
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Discord

Important:

All scheduling, logging, and payments must stay on Study Today.

You cannot:

  • Arrange private payments
  • Offer private discounts
  • Move the student off the platform

12. What teaching resources do tutors have access to?

Study Today provides extensive free resources:

  • Past FRQs, released exams, and topic-specific drills

Our in-house AI-powered question bank includes:

  • SAT Math
  • AP Precalculus / AP Calculus AB/BC
  • AMC 8/10/12
  • AP Computer Science
  • AP Statistics
  • Many more categories expanding daily

You can browse problem sets, create worksheets, assign homework, and pull high-quality problems during live lessons.

13. Can I teach multiple subjects?

Yes! We welcome tutors teaching multiple subjects. Simply add all your qualified subjects to your profile.

Miscellaneous

14. Can I join Study Today as both a student and a tutor?

Yes. Just keep your accounts consistent and log sessions normally if you take classes with other tutors.

15. What commission does Study Today take?

Our platform fee ranges from 7.5–15% depending on your experience and tenure with us. This is significantly lower than most tutoring platforms.

16. How do badges work?

Badges are earned automatically based on your tutoring hours:

  • Silver Tutor: 10+ hours
  • Gold Tutor: 50+ hours
  • Platinum Tutor: 200+ hours
  • Diamond Tutor: 1000+ hours
  • Verified Tutor: Granted after background verification

You can also earn special badges for offering new student discounts (free trial or 50% off first hour).
