A small-group math enrichment program for middle schoolers who want to go further — focused on competition-style problem solving, not just rote curriculum.
A structured enrichment program for students ready to think beyond what's covered in school.
Intuitive Math is a small-group enrichment program founded by Lucas Wu, designed to introduce middle school students to competition-style problem solving in a structured and approachable way.
The program is centered around AMC8-level mathematics and is built for students who are already comfortable with prealgebra fundamentals and want challenge beyond their standard school curriculum.
Rather than rushing through large amounts of advanced material, each class focuses on building genuine familiarity with how contest problems are structured — so students learn to approach unfamiliar questions with confidence.
Each class focuses on
Four core areas of AMC8-level mathematics, taught in a logical progression.
Multi-step equations, ratios, rates, weighted averages, arithmetic sequences, and algebraic manipulation strategies for AMC-style problems.
Divisibility rules, prime factorization, GCD/LCM, modular arithmetic, remainder cycles, and introductory congruence reasoning.
Fundamental counting principles, permutations, combinations, complementary counting, casework, and introductory probability.
Pythagorean theorem, Pythagorean triples, circle properties, similar figures, scale factors, and proportional reasoning.
A workshop-style format that balances instruction with active problem solving.
A 4-week, 16-session group program for grades 6–8. Meeting 4 times per week, approximately 90 minutes per session.
Lucas Wu founded Intuitive Math with the goal of making competition-style math accessible and genuinely enjoyable for motivated middle school students. Lucas graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Mathematics–Computer Science.
Since graduating, Lucas has been actively tutoring K–12 students in math and providing competition math coaching, working with students in both private and small-group settings across algebra, geometry, calculus, AP-level mathematics, and AMC-style enrichment.
In addition to teaching, Lucas occasionally shares mathematical problem-solving content online — including recorded walkthroughs and livestream-style discussions of AMC-style problems.
